IHOBF is dedicated to bringing the arts to schools and communities through programs that promote cultural understanding and encourage creative expression.

IHOBF Program Objectives:

  • Teach about American culture and history through blues music, blues-inspired music and folk art
  • Highlight African American cultural contributions
  • Explore traditions of diverse cultures
  • Support teachers in integrating arts and cultural content into classroom curriculums
  • Provide arts learning experiences for youth
  • Emphasize the importance of the arts in personal and community life and the potential for each individual voice to contribute to society in positive ways

Action for the Arts Initiative

This initiative raises awareness about the importance of the arts, presents youth artistic works and accomplishments, and increases access to and provides support for arts programs. Click to learn more.

Blues SchoolHouse Program

This program explores aspects of American history and culture through blues music, blues-inspired music and folk art. Utilizing House of Blues venues as multimedia classrooms,  the program engages students and teachers (grades 5-12) through a live musical presentation and interactive, arts-related learning experiences. Catalyst Series

This program identifies individuals who have made a commitment to bring about positive social change and invites them to participate as special guests in select IHOBF programs.  These individuals will have an opportunity to interact with students and encourage them to recognize the potential of each individual to contribute to society. Cultural Journeys

This program provides teachers and students with drum-based music-making experiences, educational resources and learning activities that draw on diverse cultures from around the world. Click to learn more.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Programs
