numerous Visiting Artist programs
and supported the development of

IHOBF-New Orleans was pleased to have
professional musicians Rock’n Jake and
T.J. Wheeler host a Harmonica Workshop
at Gregory Junior High School. The
musicians presented an overview of the
history of the harmonica and blues music
to students in the school’s jazz band.

25 students from Carver Middle School
participated in an IHOBF-New Orleans
Bridging the Gap Between Poetry & Rap
Visiting Artist Workshop. The workshop,
which features poet and rap musician
MYSELF, is designed to cultivate creative
writing skills through music and offers
students an interactive experience that
combines storytelling, rapping and rhythm.

The IHOBF-New Orleans Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. 2003 Spirit of the Dream Celebration & 1st Annual Poetry
Event paid tribute to Dr. King and offered students an opportunity
to showcase their individual voices at the
House of Blues. Sade Frazier, Jamira King
and Jory King were selected as the 2003
Spirit of the Dream recipients. Each recipient
received a commemorative plaque and gift
certificate to a local bookstore. |
