IHOBF-Las Vegas was created in August 1999,
becoming the 5th chapter of the International House of Blues
Foundation. The location introduced its first full year
of programming in 2000, hosting its first Blues SchoolHouse
program, entitled Seeing Blues And Hearing Art,
in January of that year. The programs message that
every culture has many unique gifts that can be shared
and enjoyed by others, has traveled from the concert
hall at the House of Blues to neighboring counties and valleys
in Southern Nevada, as well as to prisons and community
celebrations. Since its inception, the Blues SchoolHouse
program has reached over 15,000 students and teachers with
on-site programs (at the House of Blues) and thousands more
people with off-site programming. Additionally, 14 Blues
Ambassador Scholarships have been awarded to date by IHOBF-Las
Vegas and 74 students have participated in the Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. Oratory Competition. And, 70 instruments
have been donated to schools and individuals as part of
the IHOBF-Las Vegas Make An Impression Pass it Down! Program.
IHOBF-Las Vegas is proud to have opened its doors to non-profits,
shelters, senior centers, at-risk centers and community-based
organizations, offering them the opportunity to experience
American blues music and folk art.

Participants in the 2003 Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. Oratory Competition made IHOBF-Las Vegas history by
being
the first competitors to be broadcast on the radio. Nevada Public
Radio (KNPR) invited the winning speakers to record their speeches
for broadcast throughout the month of February.

More than 100 neighborhood children contributed
to a public mural (pictured above) on a wall in the growing Las
Vegas Arts District. The mural was created by local artist Suzanne
Lugano and sponsored by the IHOBF-Las Vegas.

During a visit to an IHOBF-Las Vegas Blues
SchoolHouse program, student artists from Orr Middle School used
found objects to make their own creations.
