The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) offers additional online learning activities to students and teachers that can be used separately or in connection with the IHOBF Blues SchoolHouse Classroom Guide. Please click on an activity below to view or download the project in pdf format.

Students create an assemblage related to a personal issue or belief. This activity is connected with the work of artist Lonnie Holley.

Students learn about the harmonica and how to play it (harmonica required).

Students learn to make their own drums and explore different sounds that can be created when playing drums.

Students conduct research on the traditions of quilting and participate in a classroom project in which they design and make a quilt from construction paper, yarn and other materials.

Students conduct research on the traditions of quilting and explore the role of quilts in the Underground Railroad.

Students explore the impact of communication and technology advances in the recording and radio broadcasting industries on the growth and development of blues and other forms of music during the years of the Great Migration.
