Established as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit public charitable organization in 1993, the International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) is dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and creative expression through music and art. Highlighting African American cultural contributions, the foundation brings art and music to schools and communities. IHOBF promotes its mission through core educational programs, community cultural activities and special events.
IHOBF core programs include (1) the Blues SchoolHouse, a multimedia classroom where students and teachers experience the art, music, history and cultural impact of the blues form, (2) Make An Impression, which
encourages and supports hands-on participation in the arts, and (3) Blues Ambassador Scholarships, which are awarded annually to students who have demonstrated a significant interest in the arts and/or leadership in increasing understanding between people of diverse backgrounds. In addition, each IHOBF location offers other special educational and cultural programs, including annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. events.
The IHOBF currently provides programs in eight locations nationally including Anaheim, Chicago, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Orlando and San Diego, with programming to be introduced in Atlantic City in 2006. IHOBF programs reach thousands of students nationwide and over 50,000 students and teachers annually.
