| The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) is dedicated to bringing the arts to schools and communities through programs that promote cultural understanding and encourage creative expression. IHOBF was established in 1993 and has expanded to nine locations nationwide, including Anaheim, Atlantic City, Chicago, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Orlando, and San Diego. IHOBF plans to introduce programming in Dallas during the 2007/2008 school year. |
| IHOBF programs 1) teach about American culture and history through blues music and folk art; 2) highlight African American cultural contributions; 3) explore traditions and cross-influences of diverse cultures; 4) support teachers in integrating arts and cultural content into classroom curriculums; 5) provide arts learning experiences for youth; and 6) emphasize the importance of the arts in personal and community life. |
| IHOBF programs are offered at House of Blues venues as well as in school and community settings. Core programming includes the Blues SchoolHouse, (a multi-media program where students learn about the music, history and cultural impact of the blues and traditions of related folk art) Make An Impression (community and school-based programs where students learn to play musical instruments and participate in visual arts projects), Roots of Rhythm (programs offer teachers and students drum-based educational resources, music-making experiences and other learning activities that draw on diverse cultures from around the world), annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Programs and Blues Ambassador Scholarships. In 2006, IHOBF introduced Action for the Arts, a new initiative that makes arts programs and experiences more accessible to youth and other community members by encouraging interest/increased participation in the arts and generating funds to support the delivery of IHOBF and other arts programs. More than 60,000 students, teachers and other adults nationwide participated in IHOBF arts and cultural educational programs in 2006. |
| IHOBF is an independent 501 (c) (3) non-profit public charitable organization, supported by House of Blues Entertainment, Inc., House of Blues Foundation Room members, and other public and private donors. |
