Drawing Us Together
Drawing Us Together 2012, a visual arts exhibit and competition, invited 6th through 12th grade students to create original artworks inspired by the 2012 theme: The Arts Inspire Hope. In creating their artworks, students were encouraged to consider how the arts can inspire hope in challenging times and difficult circumstances. An exhibit took place at House of Blues Las Vegas on May 10. Congratulations to the 2012 competition winners:
- High School: Sophia Manio – 1st place, Alysha Wogee – 2nd place
- Middle School – Individual: Rowan Morris – 1st place, Briannen Toledo – 2nd place
- Middle School – Group: Rejected Unicorns – 1st place, Hopeful Music Notes – 2nd place.

Action for the Arts Instruments, Arts Resources, and Grants Program
Public schools and non-profit organizations located in Clark, Lincoln, and Nye counties in Nevada may be eligible to apply for musical instruments, arts resources and grants to support music and arts instructional programs for youth. Applications for the 2012/2013 program year (September 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013) will be accepted from May 1 through July 13, 2012. Click here for more information.
Dr. King Programs
Winners of the annual Dr. King Oratory Competition in grades K through 12 were featured during the I Have Dream performing arts program celebrating the life and teachings of Dr. King at the House of Blues Las Vegas on Friday, February 4. Click here to see highlights.
Visual Art Workshop/Tours
IHOBF Las Vegas will offer visual art workshops and educational tours of the House of Blues Las Vegas’ American folk art collection. Workshop participants will be invited to create their own artwork based on themes and/or medium of featured folk artists. To register a group of 50 or less participants contact ihobflasvegas@livenation.com.
Blues SchoolHouse
Blues SchoolHouse resources including the Blues SchoolHouse Classroom Guide are available free of charge at IHOBF’s online Learning Center.
Cultural Journeys
Clark County students and teachers will have an opportunity to participate in Cultural Journeys percussion based programming that draws on diverse cultures from around the world. Programming opportunities will include a teacher workshop, student assembly programs and extended learning opportunities. Please email ihobflasvegas@livenation.com for details.
Bringin' Down the House
This musical competition for high school students took place October 27, 2011, at House of Blues Las Vegas. Congratulations to Generation Y, winners of the 2011 Bringin’ Down the House musical competition! Generation Y received a $500 Guitar Center gift card and a $250 donation from IHOBF to their high school’s music department. Congratulations to second place and $300 Guitar Center gift card winner Garbage Tree and third place and $200 Guitar Center gift card winner Flo Awuah. And congratulations to Gunshow, who received a $250 House of Blues gift certificate and special recognition for generating the most community support for the competition.
