Drawing Us Together
Drawing Us Together 2012, a visual arts exhibit and competition, invites 6th through 12th grade students to create original artworks inspired by the 2012 theme: The Arts Inspire Hope. In creating their artworks, students are encouraged to consider how the arts can inspire hope in challenging times and difficult circumstances. Exhibits will take place at House of Blues Houston on May 22 and online at actionforthearts.org. Click here for more information.
Action for the Arts Instruments, Arts Resources, and Grants Program
Public schools and non-profit organizations located in Houston may be eligible to apply for musical instruments, arts resources and grants to support music and arts instructional programs for youth. Applications for the 2012/2013 program year (September 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013) will be accepted from May 1 through July 13, 2012. Click here for more information.
Dr. King Celebration
The Third Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration & Student Arts Exhibition was held Friday, January 13, at House of Blues Houston. School and community-based youth groups from the city of Houston participated in a performance and visual art exhibition that celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Participating youth will used the words of Dr. King as inspiration for creating pieces of performance and visual artwork that celebrated Dr. King’s life and accomplishments and explored how his principles and philosophies continue to influence contemporary life. Bringin' Down the House
This musical competition for high school students took place December 5, 2011, at House of Blues Houston. Congratulations to Intense, winner of the 2011 Bringin’ Down the House musical competition! They received a $500 Guitar Center gift card, studio time at Studio 713, and a $250 donation from IHOBF to his high school’s music department. Congratulations to second place and $300 Guitar Center gift card winner The Current and third place and $200 Guitar Center gift card winner 3rd Denial. And congratulations to Tier, who received a $200 House of Blues gift certificate and special recognition for generating the most community support for the competition.
